Happy new year, and what an exciting one it promises to be in the world of CCS. The announcement of Longship has put more attention than ever before onto these technologies. Our work in the coming years can make an enormous difference to the successful implementation of full-scale CCS for Norway and beyond.

We are now hard at work on the 2020 annual report, which we will share with you next month. In the meantime, please enjoy these blog posts that give a sample of the work that's been taking place recently throughout NCCS.
I'd also like to direct your attention to the new NCCS LinkedIn page. We've built a network of 300 people in less than two months, and I think this will be a valuable platform in the years to come.

CCS: How Much Does It Cost To Increase Storage Efficiency?
Results of analysis performed in NCCS indicates that mobility control in CO2 storage can reduce the total cost per tonne of CO2 stored.
When we compress CO2 and inject it into a reservoir for permanent storage, it becomes a peculiar combination of liquid-like density but gas-like viscosity. … Read more

Derisking the Smeaheia Fault Block: Geological Controls on CO2 Containment
Researchers in NCCS have recently published a scientific article about the geological evolution of the Smeaheia fault block and key CO2 containment risks associated with the structural framework of the area. The findings provide key risk information for the flagship Northern Lights storage project …

CCS Has A Branding Problem — We Need A Solution
CCS means many things to many people, both inside and outside of science and industry. Here at SINTEF, we refer to the collective technologies of CO2 capture, transport, and storage as CCS. One of the big reasons is that within Norway, the term CCS doesn’t have many other uses. But that's not the case globally. What does CCS mean? It … Read more

Unveiling the Dynamics of CO2 Injection into Underground Storage
A new paper from the ACT ELEGANCY project describes the development of a new computer model designed to replicate fluid dynamics in a well and the near-well reservoir. The results will help CO2 storage engineers better understand the temperature and pressure changes and their impact. … Read more
