FlexPlan-projects developed a new methodology for planning the expansion of transmission and distribution networks. The methodology assesses the use of flexible resources, e.g. energy storage and end-user flexibility, as an alternative to the conventional approach, i.e. building new lines and/or components.
Instead of building new grid, utilizing flexibility in industrial processes could be a cheaper and faster way of integrating variable power production.
How do we achieve a power grid that is flexible, intelligent, robust, and cost-effective? This was the main question examined during the CINELDI days.
