Gas technology Policy

What is the role for gas in the future?

The Gas Technology Centre NTNU-SINTEF (GTS) kicks off the Trondheim Gas Technology Conference (TGTC-4) in Trondheim on December 5th 2016. This year’s theme: The role for gas in the future international energy market.

Trondheim is Norway’s leading technology hub for energy research. The TGTC-4 conference will in particular provide an insight to the status of the R&D-activities at NTNUSINTEF and our collaborating partners. It will also highlight future R&D needs in light of European and Norwegian strategies and policies.

Energy security through diversification

In the EU, political leaders are seeking energy security through a diversification of both suppliers and sources. In this regards, and as described in several of the EUs energy strategies, gas is considered an important part of the energy mix.

However, because the EUs internal gas production is decreasing, import will increase in the coming decades. Norwegian politicians want Norway to remain an important energy provider for the continent, and there is a potential to extract more gas resources from the Norwegian continental shelf. One might nevertheless ask whether this apparent interdependence means that there is a straight way forward.

Meet key stakeholders and researchers

On the conference’s first part leading stakeholders from the government, the EU and industry will discuss the potential for gas in the future energy market.

On the conference’s second part, researchers from NTNU-SINTEF and the international energy research environment will present their R&D activities. By doing so, they will bring to the fore concrete solutions to ensure our common energy concerns.

As a Chair of the Scientific Committee of TGTC-4 I am excited about the conference. I look forward to meet and discuss with our colleagues coming from Norway and from other countries. We always have something to learn from each other.

Submit your abstracts by September 2nd

Researchers are invited to submit abstracts on the following topics:

  • Offshore and subsea processing and conditioning
  • Gas transport from remote areas
  • LNG and FLNG technologies
  • Gas value chain – optimization and analyses, health and environmental impact
  • Hydrogen production from fossil fuel sources with CCS

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: September 2nd 2016
See the conference webpage for more information.

The Gas Technology Centre NTNU-SINTEF (GTS) is hosting the conference. The GTS-centre focus on the missing R&D tasks for future environmentally benign utilisation of natural gas.
