Gunnar Sand, SINTEF, participated in the international panel which discussed the prospects for oil operations in the high north.

Per Helge Høgaas, SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, had a presentation during the Business session on the topic “Knowledge for sustainable northern mineral activity.”

I was head of the Scientific Committee and chair of the topic  The Arctic’s role in the global energy supply and security” in the Science section of the conference. I also held a presentation about the topic “Challenges Regarding electricity supply two offshore oil and gas installations in the Arctic” under the “Oil and gas exploration in the Arctic”-session. In the lead up to the conference Gunnar Sand and I had an article in Nordlys about conditions for environmentally friendly oil operations north in the Barents Sea (in Norwegian): In the article we write that “Power from mainland Norway could be a solution if we are to electrify oil and gas fields in the Hoop area in Northern Barents Sea. This involves challenges both with regards to technological solutions and energy supply in the north.”
