17. and 18. September SINTEF Energy Research and NTNU hosted the 5th International Workshop on Hydro Scheduling in Competitive Electricity Markets, in Trondheim.

Academia and the industry were brought together in a technical forum to share experiences and discuss future trends related to this area. The workshop has previously been arranged in Trondheim (2002), Stavanger (2005), Oslo (2008) and Bergen (2012), but returned “home” to Trondheim this year.

Participants from hydropower nations

A diversified forum of researchers and practitioners were gathered, comprising some 100 registered participants, out of which approximately 1/3 were international, including hydropower nations such as Canada, Brazil, Chile, Austria and Switzerland.

Results from recent research, ongoing developments, best practices and applications related to the complex environment of hydro scheduling and its surroundings were presented and discussed.

In contrast with previous versions of this workshop, a separate session on “Hydro scheduling in multiple markets” was arranged. This topic is also addressed in two on-going SINTEF projects,  Integrating Balancing Markets in Hydro Scheduling Methods  and MultiSHARM.
