WELCOME TO NAINE!

The main purpose of the NAINE network is to contribute to increased number of EU proposals within AI involving Norwegian institutions. NAINE is open for everyone in Norway interested in AI and national and European collaboration.
WHAT IS NAINE?
NAINE spans across academia and industry, research and application. In line with the European Commission, we use the expression AI in the broadest context covering machine learning, deep learning, hybrid analytics, learning based control systems, optimisation etc. At the moment, EU does not have an overarching programme for "everything AI". Instead, AI is covered by multiple initiatives in and alongside the EU framework, both in the running H2020, Horizon Europe, and the coming Digital Europe Programme for 2021. NAINE is monitoring selected calls and activities, forwarding information and coordinating hearings for calls together with the Research Council of Norway. In addition, we will organize two workshops yearly with information about relevant activities and calls as well as networking opportunities.

NOTES FROM PREVIOUS EVENTS

Report from NAINE and NFR Horizon 2020 workshop on Sep 13, 2019, Oslo

h2020 nfr
Report from ICT Proposers Day 2019, Sep 19-20, Helsinki, by Anders Bryhni, Arne Berre, Christna Hanssen (SINTEF Digial)
The event attracted a crowd of a few thousand delegates representing a wide array of academic institutions, research and technology organizations, private companies and governments and regulatory bodies.

Representatives from various programmes and calls went on stage presenting ambitions and key focus areas, laying out relatively clearly which directions applicants should move in order to match the intention of the calls. And subsequently both project ideas and entities wanting to join consortia got a chance to pitch on stage.
AI was, unsurprisingly, a key topic for many calls. The focus currently seems to be on applications of AI in various domains and industries, utilizing the work done in initiatives focusing on more core capabilities (AI4EU, CLAIRE). At the same time EU has a significant focus on the ethical aspects of AI. So, to succeed in upcoming calls, finding the best possible use cases is probably crucial, while also keeping an eye on the overall picture to make sure possible negative implications of applying AI is considered and reflected upon. More information can be found here.
